Fast forward to now and, apart from the size of the place, not much has changed. In the decades that followed, Vegas quickly built an inimitable reputation as the world’s most famous casino resort town, and a pilgrimage for anybody with a keen interest in high-stakes gambling and the world of showbusiness. The railroad encouraged a boom in residents over the next twenty years or so, but it was the legalization of gambling in 1931 as a reaction to the Great Depression of the previous decade that put this corner of Nevada on the map. At the turn of the 20th century, Vegas was nothing more than a dusty byway, frequented only by railroad engineers who were busy installing tracks in the area. Whether you’re looking to party, or for a truly unique gaming experience, extravagant live shows or decadent hotel suites, Las Vegas has it all. Of course, it wasn’t always this way.
